Your defection good riddance for APC’, Shehu Sani mocks El-Rufai for leaving party

The former senator who represented Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has mocked immediate past Governor of the state, Malam Nasir El-Rufai over his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), describing it as good riddance and a welcome development for its leadership in the state.

El-Rufai’s announcement of his resignation from the APC on Monday has been met with mixed reactions by many Nigerians but for Sani, the detection of the former FCT Minister is something that should be celebrated as he (El-Rufai) was a political liability to the APC in Kaduna.

The former senator turned political activist who made the remarks during an interview programme on Channels Television on Monday night, said
El-Rufai’s two tenures as governor has weakened the APC in Kaduna and contributed to the party’s declining electoral fortunes.

“For those of us in Kaduna State, it is a good riddance because he stands a liability to the party in the state. I can back this with facts,” Sani said.

He went in to point out to APC’s dismal performance in recent elections in the state and attributed them to El-Rufai’s negative politics which made the APC to lose its appeal in the state.

“In 2015, APC had two senators. By 2023, all the three senatorial zones were taken over by PDP. And out of 14 House of Reps seats in Kaduna State, under Nasir, by the time he left, almost nine of the seats were by PDP, two by Labour Party, and then three by APC.

“With him as governor, the APC also lost the presidential election in Kaduna State,” he argued.

“So you can see that by the time he left, the party was an unpopular platform in the state.

“His exit now is an opportunity for the governor and party’s leaders in the state to embrace the people and to reconfigure and set the party towards the next election.”

Shortly after the former governor announced his decision to quit the APC, Sani had taken to his Facebook page to make mockery of his political rival.

“He callously evicted us from our homes and sent us to the forest, and our Lord has evicted him from his home and sent him to the Wilderness. Our Lord’s 5G judgment,” he wrote.
