Newscenter Media News Over 100 professional women footballers have signed an open letter urging FIFA to cancel its sponsorship deal with Saudi oil giant Aramco.
In the letter, the women called the deal a “punch in the stomach” to the sport.
Fifa announced earlier this year that the partnership with Aramco would run until 2027, covering sponsorship for the 2026 men’s World Cup and the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
Players from 24 countries are asking the world football governing body to reconsider the deal due to concerns about human rights and environmental issues.

In an interview with the BBC, Netherlands and Manchester City’s Vivianne Miedema, said: “I think as footballers, and especially as women’s footballers, we carry the responsibility to show the world and the next generation what is right.
“I think this sponsorship is not right for what Fifa stands for, but also what we as women footballers stand for.
“Fifa always shout that they want the game to be inclusive, and they want the game to lead by example. Well, if so, then make sure that you align with sponsorships that are leading by example.”
Before now, the Gulf kingdom has been criticised for its human rights violations, women’s rights abuses, and investing in sport and using high-profile events to improve its international reputation.
