Newscenter Media News Seven secondary school principals were suspended by the Taraba State government over allegations of extortion, yesterday. They were accused of sabotaging the free education programme declared by Governor Agbu Kefas.
On ascending office on May 29, 2023, the governor had introduced free education for primary and secondary schools across the state and also settled fees for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) for all candidates.
Despite the measures, some school authorities were alleged to have continued extorting money from students, thereby sabotaging the free education programme.
Commissioner of Education, Augustina Yahaya, announced the suspended.
The affected schools are: Government Day Secondary Schools (GDSS) in Kofai, Salihu Dogo (Jalingo), Kununi (Lau), Jouro Yinu (Ardo-Kola), Kakulu (Zing), and Yakassai (Wukari), as well as Government Secondary School (GSS) Takum.
