Newscenter Media News Former Niger Delta militant leader, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, has reacted to a peace meeting held on Tuesday by President Bola Tinubu, with political leaders from the South-South region.
The meeting had in attendance Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as well as representatives and leaders of the Niger Delta under the Pan-Niger Delta Forum and held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
During the meeting, Tinubu had appealed to all stakeholders in Rivers State to adhere to the rule of law to ensure lasting peace and prosperity.
In a statement issued at the end of the meeting by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu had reportedly urged all warring factors in the state to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign.
The statement titled ‘President Tinubu calls for adherence to the rule of law to restore peace in Rivers State’, read in part:
“The Niger Delta is the goose that lays the golden egg. We must care for the goose; otherwise, we lose the golden egg.
“I got your signal and your concern, particularly on Rivers State. I have been on the issue for quite some time. I foresaw the crisis festering for too long before I intervened. We reached an agreement, a written agreement, and both parties signed.”
The President advised the leaders to be more broad-minded, selfless and focused on the larger vision of salvaging the region, politically and economically, by insisting that the judiciary’s interpretations of the Constitution be respected, Onanuga added.
But while reacting to the peace meeting, the leader of the defunct Niger Delta Volunteer Force (NDVF), said he was ashamed at the president‘s handling of the crisis in the oil-rich state.
According to him, Tinubu was only interested in grabbing the South-South in the 2027 elections and not for the love of the people of the region.
In a series of posts on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Dokubo also accused Wike of being the catalyst for the political crisis that has continued to rock Rivers State.
“Any Niger delta man or woman who knows the koko of the matter in Rivers and still supporting Wike is a devil from the pit of hell,” he wrote in one of the posts.
Going further, Dokubo said:
“President Ahmed Bola Tinubu Mark today being 12th March, 2025, you cannot take over Rivers state to APC.
“The way you taking sides with Wike to take over Rivers, did Buhari do what you are doing? I’m ashamed of you.
“You want to grab south south states because of 2027, you don’t care about the people how they feel and what they going through.
“No matter what you do, we Rivers people, we stand with Fubara and we will take our destiny in our hands,” he wrote.
