Renowned Islamic cleric, Idris Abdulaziz passes on

A renowned Bauchi-based Sunni Islamic cleric, Dr Idris Abdulaziz, has died after battling with undisclosed illness.

The cleric’s death was announced on an official Facebook page of his mosque, Dutsen Tanshi Majlis Bauchi, noting that his funeral would take place at Games Village Eid Ground, Bauchi at 10:00 am on Friday.

The late renowned preacher left explicit instructions in his will, prohibiting photography at his funeral, canceling memorial gatherings at his residence, and disallowing the jostling of his corpse.

He also mandated that mourners remove their shoes before entering the cemetery.

Throughout his life, the scholar was embroiled in numerous controversies and disagreements with successive Bauchi State administrations, traditional rulers, law enforcement, and fellow clerics from the Izala and Tariqa sects.

A distinguished academic, he held a degree in Islamic Law from the Islamic University of Madinah and a PhD in Islamic Jurisprudence from the University of Sudan.

In a heartfelt condolence message, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, prayed for the late preacher’s soul to rest in peace in Jannatul Fiddausi.
