Newscenter Media News The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has issued a stark warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the economic policies his administration has adopted, which they argue are exacerbating the sufferings of ordinary Nigerians.
In a press release on Tuesday, the PRP highlighted the severe impact of currency devaluation and subsidy removals, calling for an urgent reevaluation of these strategies.
“The assertion by Vice President Shetima that there are no alternatives to these harmful policies is deeply troubling,” said Falalu Bello, National Chairman of the PRP. “This perspective not only undermines basic economic principles but also reflects a disconnect from the struggles faced by the Nigerian populace.”
The PRP criticized the government’s failure to provide tangible relief despite promises to improve conditions for citizens. “We see extravagant spending from our leaders while the majority of Nigerians grapple with worsening poverty and inflation,” Bello lamented. “The revenue generated from these policies has not translated into improved social amenities, leaving many in despair.”

The party also addressed the troubling endorsement of these policies by international financial institutions like the World Bank and IMF, which have suggested maintaining the current course for up to fifteen years. “Such recommendations are in stark contrast to the reality of increased poverty levels,” Bello stated. “These institutions must prioritize the welfare of the people, not just fiscal metrics.”
The PRP proposed a series of alternatives aimed at restoring economic stability and protecting the vulnerable. Among their recommendations are a comprehensive probe into petroleum subsidy fraud, a reassessment of electricity tariffs, and substantial reductions in borrowing costs. “We believe that there are humane alternatives that can lead Nigeria towards sustainable recovery,” Bello emphasized.
In a plea to President Tinubu, the PRP urged immediate action. “Mr. President, the time for decisive intervention is now. Our nation is at a critical juncture, and we must act swiftly to prevent further despair among our people,” Bello concluded.
As Nigeria grapples with rising economic challenges, the PRP’s call for change resonates amid growing frustration among citizens facing the repercussions of unpopular policies.
