Newscenter Media News Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, arrested a police officer, simply identified as Supol Owolabi, attached to the Ogudu Area Command, for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a teenage girl in his office.
The Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, who confirmed the arrest, said the action of the senior police officer runs foul of ethical standards, assuring that justice will be served.
He said investigation had already commenced,with a view to ascertaining the officer’s culpability. He added that the officer involved in the act of the sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl had been arrested.
“I have directed a full-scale and thorough investigation into the allegation. The general public should be rest assured that there is absolutely no attempt at a cover-up as such a heinous act is at variance with the code of conduct and professional ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.
“If found culpable, the officer would be dealt with in accordance with police regulations and the law,” he said.
The Guardian learnt that the suspected officer overheard the girl narrating her ordeal in the hands of robbers which resulted in the loss of her phone.
The officer reportedly called the mother of the girl on June 29, that her daughter’s lost phone had been recovered and the robbers had been arrested, and directed her to send her daughter to his office to collect the phone.
On getting to the station, the unnamed teenage girl was told that the phone was not her’s and that those arrested had nothing to do with the attack on her.
She was directed to Owolabi’s office for further details. While in the office, the officer reportedly locked the door, pocketed the key and started rough-handling the girl.
When she resisted, the officer reportedly brought out his service pistol and threatened to shoot.
He finally had his way. It was learnt that the officer also warned the girl not to tell anyone and report regularly to his office.
