Newscenter Media News The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the third time in a couple of months, has postponed its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The meeting, which was originally scheduled for August, was first shifted to September. Then it was moved to October 2, and now shifted to November 28.
The latest decision to shift the meeting was taken at an enlarged meeting of the PDP Governors Forum with the Board of Trustees, BoT; National Working Committee (NWC) and former governors, among others.
The meeting, which started at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, lasted till the early hours of Wednesday.
Reading a communique issued after the meeting, the Chairman of the PDP-GF, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, said the decision was to allow party leaders concentrate on the forthcoming Ondo governorship election.
Mohammed said: “Rising from the consultative meeting of the various organs of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Party resolved as follows:
“The National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting originally slated for October 24, 2024, has been rescheduled to November 28, 2024.
“The postponement is to ensure that the party goes into the forthcoming Ondo gubernatorial election of November 16, 2024 with the unity and strength demanded to unseat the floundering All Progressive Congress, APC, government in the state.
“Reiterating the need for unity in the face of efforts by detractors to divide the party, the meeting called on all members to shun divisive utterances that could undermine ongoing efforts at strengthening the party to effectively play its role as the country’s main opposition, preparatory to taking over in 2027.”
Meanwhile, the party’s Governors’ Forum PDP-GF, yesterday issued a disclaimer to news making the rounds that its Chairman or his associates instituted a legal action against the party, in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

The disclaimer was contained in a statement signed by the Director General of the PDP-GF, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, in Abuja.
Agbo said: “The attention of the PDP Governors’ Forum, PDP-GF under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, and all the member Governors of the Forum, has been drawn to an online publication, to the effect that the Bauchi Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum filed a suit at the Federal High Court of Nigeria holden at Gusau Judicial Division, seeking an ex parte order that would compel the convening of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
“This is to emphatically state that the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State does not in any way, either by proxy or himself, have anything to do with the said suit.
“For emphasis, our teeming supporters and all Nigerians are urged to ignore the false claim that the Chairman of the Forum or any of its members instigated any legal proceedings about the above.
“Finally, we wish to state that the publication is dubious, malicious and intended to smear the character of Governor Bala Mohammed.”
Recall that reports had made the rounds that some party members allegedly acting on the behest of the Bauchi State Governor had approached a Federal High Court in Gusau to seek for an interim injunction to compel the party to hold its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday as scheduled.
Meanwhile, the PDP Governors had early last week enjoined party members who were in court against the party to withdraw such cases to pave way for genuine reconciliation.
Earlier, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, had issued a ruling on a matter brought before it by party members in Yobe State, the home state of the embattled Ag. National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
The court restrained the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Damagum from office until December 2025.
