Newscenter Media News The Ondo State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the N96 billion 2024 supplementary budget.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa a few weeks ago forwarded a bill on the supplementary budget to the lawmakers.
The governor in a letter to the House anchored his request for a supplementary budget on the effects of petrol subsidy removal and to enable the implementation of N73,000 minimum wage for workers in the state.
The development increased the state’s budget for this fiscal year from N395 billion to N487 billion.
In his remark after submitting the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, the House Majority Leader, Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, stressed the need for additional funds for the government to meet its goals.
He said the funds allocated to some Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) had been exhausted because of inflationary pressure on the 2024 budget.
Ogunmolasuyi, who is also the chairman of the committee, explained that the revised budget would cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal and pave the way for payment of the new minimum wage.
He, therefore, moved a motion for the bill to be passed and the lawmaker representing Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo constituency, Mr. Nelson Akinsuroju, seconded the motion.
