Newscenter Media News Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has announced that the country is collaborating with foreign nations to recover more looted funds.
Fagbemi made this statement on Tuesday, at the Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference in Lagos, where he emphasized the need for speed and efficiency in prosecuting corrupt individuals.
Lagos Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, also stressed the importance of a prompt and efficient justice system, citing its impact on economic growth and investment.
Pedro revealed plans to reduce the time it takes to resolve cases in court, aiming to complete civil cases within two years and landlord-tenant disputes within six months.

“Lagos has always been different. Even before the federal review, our compensation structure for judicial officers was already above par compared to most other states,” he said.
He promised that the state government would soon unveil new initiatives to enhance magistrates’ working conditions.
“There’s something significant coming for our magistrates, and Mr. Governor will announce it in due time—likely within the next two to three months,” Pedro revealed.
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede called for a law to strengthen the whistleblower policy and urged lawyers not to protect suspected criminals.
Olukoyede emphasized the importance of mutual respect between legal professionals and law enforcement agents, promising dignity and fairness in the treatment of individuals at the EFCC.
“Don’t try to protect suspected criminals and people who must have committed financial crimes.
“If you know where, who, or whatever we are looking for, you must bring that person to the open and we will do our own part,” he said.
The conference highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to anti-corruption efforts, justice sector reforms, and economic growth through efficient justice delivery.
