NFF urges Nigerians to accept, support Eric Chelle

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has made an appeal to Nigerian football fans to embrace the decision of the football house on the appointment of Eric Chelle as new Super Eagles coach.

The call was made in a statement by the NFF chairman, Ibrahim Gusau, who also announced that Chelle would be presented to the public on Monday.

There have been concerns in some quarters about the new coach, with many saying the NFF could have employed a local coach rather than appointing one from Mali.

Chelle, a former Mali international, was appointed coach within last week, and he will be leading the home-based Super Eagles team to the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

In the statement, Gusau said Chelle be presented to the public in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and event scheduled for the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, by 11:00a.m.

He said: “We appreciate the fact that Nigerians are very passionate about the game of football, and that is the reason for the different tones of reactions following the appointment of Coach Chelle.

“However, the NFF hereby appeals to Nigerians to come together and support him, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success with the Super Eagles.

“The NFF will give him all the support that he needs to succeed in the job.”

At Monday’s unveiling, the statement stated that the NFF will also disclose the names of Coach Chelle’s assistants, with the crew to shepherd the Super Eagles for CHAN as well as the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
