My husband’s apprentice stabbed me multiple times, witness tells court

Justice Yetunde Adesanya of a Lagos High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) was yesterday told how an apprentice, Nureni Kazeem, allegedly stabbed his boss’ wife, Lateefa Oyetunde, multiple times.

The prosecution witness, Oyetunde, in her testimony recounted her ordeal in the ongoing trial of Kazeem. The defendant was arraigned for one-count charge of attempted murder by the Lagos State government.

Led-in-evidence by the state counsel, Mr Olayemi Shofolu, the witness, a 33-year-old trader, told the court that the incident occurred on October 4, 2022, at about 11:30 p.m., when she was asleep.

She said when she felt a stab on her stomach, she opened her eyes and saw the defendant, Kazeem, whose face was covered with a black hat he had worn to work.

“While I was struggling with him, the knife fell off from him. I picked it up to retaliate but noticed it had become bent. I then tried to pick up a stool to throw at him but before I could do that he ran out,” she said.

During cross-examination by the defendant’s counsel, the witness said she was at home with her four-year-old child on the day of the incident.

She added that there was a disagreement between the defendant and her husband, a week before the incident. After listening to her testimony, Justice Adesanya adjourned till December 2, for continuation of trial.
