Man Utd held to draw by Twente in Europa League opener

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Twente in their Europa League opener on Thursday night.

Christian Eriksen gave United a first-half lead with a superb strike from inside the penalty area.

He however caused the equaliser as he allowed himself to be caught in possession by Sam Lammers just outside the United box.

Lammers took maximum advantage of the opportunity as he drove a blistering effort past Andre Onana.

Erik ten Hag’s men stumbled at the start of their Europa League campaign against his boyhood club Twente, who would return home excited to have taken a point from the game at Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen provided an assist as Galatasaray beat POAK 3-1.

In the other Europa League clashes on Wednesday, AZ Alkmaar defeated IF Elfsborg 3-2; Bodo/Glimt defeated Porto 3-2; and Anderlecht beat Ferencváros 2-1.

Dynamo Kyiv fell to a 3-0 loss to visiting Lazio Roma; Ludorogets fell to a 2-0 defeat to Slavia Prague; Nice and Real Sociedad played a 1-1 draw.
