Newscenter Media News The Labour Party (LP) has declared its readiness to win the 2027 presidential election without forming any coalition.
The party cited its strong grassroots support and the growing dissatisfaction with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the country.
In a with PUNCH on Sunday, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, dismissed rumors of a coalition agreement with Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) or former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).READ MORE
“As it stands, Labour Party has not been approached or invited to any meeting whatsoever to discuss a coalition. What we see already is that people are thinking of alternatives and how best elections can be won in a landslide against the ruling APC,” Ifoh said.

He recalled the party’s strong performance in the 2023 elections, where it secured millions of votes, as proof of its capability to independently challenge the APC.
“We didn’t need any coalition in 2023 when Nigerians rallied around the Labour Party as the alternative for leadership. If elections were held today, we would surpass that performance because the current government has failed to meet the people’s expectations.
“Everything Labour Party stands for—integrity, good governance, and economic transformation—is what Nigeria needs now. The challenges facing the country have validated our 2023 message and strengthened our resolve, ” he added.
Ifoh, however, clarified that the party is not closing the door of alliance with other parties .
“The idea of a coalition is not bad. If Labour Party is approached, we will scrutinize the proposal, weighing its merits and demerits,” he stated.
He noted that no formal discussions or initiatives for coalition talks have been initiated by opposition parties.
