JUST IN: Man Utd sack Ten Hag, appoint Van Nistelrooy as interim boss

Manchester United have shown manager Erik ten Hag the door after about two and half years in charge of the team.

The Premier League club have had a shaky start to the season, and there have been unending calls for the former Ajax manager to be sacked.

Ten Hag’s eventual departure comes after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham following a late drama in a Premier League game in London on Sunday.

The Dutchamn was informed of the sack on Monday, as Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the club as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, has been named as interim manager.

The Red Devils are 14th in the Premier League with just three wins from their opening nine matches, while they are 21st of 36 teams in the Europa League table.

Recall that the Manchester club triggered a one-year extension in Ten Hag’s contract following their FA Cup triumph in May, but just over three months later he has been dismissed.

The club said Van Nistelrooy would be in charge “while a permanent head coach is recruited”.

United are now seeking their sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
