Newscenter Media News Former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to perform well at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), emphasizing that progressing from the group stage has never been an issue for the team.
Yobo shared his thoughts after the AFCON 2025 draw, which took place on Monday in Rabat, Morocco. Nigeria was drawn in Group C alongside former champions Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.
“We have a very good team, and the players are improving,” said Yobo, who served as one of the draw assistants at the ceremony.
“This is one of the best generations of players we’ve had, and they showed their quality at the last AFCON. Looking at the group, it won’t be easy, but for the Super Eagles, getting out of the group stage is never a problem.”

The 2013 AFCON-winning captain is optimistic the team can go all the way this time. “I hope we start strong and carry that momentum to the final. After our performance at AFCON 2023, it’s about time we won the trophy again. With the players we have and a fantastic new coach, I believe it’s possible.”
In the other groups, hosts Morocco were drawn in Group A with Mali, Zambia, and Comoros, while Group B features Egypt, South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe.
Group D includes Senegal, DR Congo, Benin Republic, and Botswana.
Group E pits Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, and Sudan against each other, while defending champions Cote d’Ivoire will face Cameroon, Gabon, and Mozambique in Group F.
