Newscenter Media News Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as the new head coach of Besiktas.
The 51-year-old Norwegian has signed an 18-month contract with an option to extend through the 2026-27 season. This marks his first managerial role since his departure from Manchester United in 2021.
Besiktas, a 16-time Turkish Super Lig champion, currently sits sixth in the league table and has been without a permanent manager since Giovanni van Bronckhorst left the club in November.
“We believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will bring immense value to our club. We warmly welcome him to the Besiktas family and wish him great success,” the Istanbul-based club announced.

Solskjaer originally took over at Manchester United as an interim boss in December 2018, replacing Jose Mourinho, and signed a three-year contract in March 2019.
During his tenure, he led the team to a second-place Premier League finish and a Europa League final. However, he was dismissed following a poor run of results and left without securing a trophy.
Before joining United as a manager, Solskjaer coached Molde in two separate spells and had a brief stint with Cardiff City.
As a player, he was a prolific striker for Manchester United, scoring 126 goals over 11 seasons from 1996 to 2007, including the iconic winner in the 1999 Champions League final.
