Newscenter Media News The Edo State Joint Transition Committee meeting hit a brickwall on Tuesday due to disagreements over essential documents required for the sitting.
The committee, comprising members of the outgoing administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki and Governor-elect Monday Okpebholo, had previously agreed to facilitate a smooth handover of government.
At the opening session last week, Secretary to the State Government Joseph Eboigbe praised Obaseki’s clean financial records and promised to provide soft and hard copies of all records to the Dr. Pius Odubu-led transition committee.

However, only a few government committee staff attended Tuesday’s meeting, while APC members were noticeably absent.
Patrick Ikhariale, Secretary of the APC transition committee, on Tuesday, stated that members had requested advance copies of documents 24 hours before any meeting, but the provided documents fell short of their expectations. “The truth remains that we have had a series of communications, both oral and written… We told them yesterday that all the documents they have supplied so far do not meet our expectations,” Ikhariale said.
Ikhariale emphasized that their requests align with global best practices, focusing on monetary issues, expenditures, grants, and NGOs. “We have 23 areas of interest which we forwarded to them… What has been supplied to us so far is showcasing the achievements of the Obaseki regime,” he added.
In response, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Chris Nehikhare argued that the APC committee’s inquiries exceeded their transition mandate. “We are a transition committee and not an inquisitive committee… The global practice is to present what we have done, where we are, and what has not been done,” Nehikhare said.
