Newscenter Media News Justice T. A. Okunsokan of the Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta, on Tuesday dismissed a suit seeking the postponement of the November 16 local council election in the state.
The judge gave the ruling in a suit filed by 16 political parties in the state.
The parties had in the suit asked the court to order the postponement of the election indefinitely alleged unilateral decision by the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC).
They alleged that the commission fixed the election date election without consulting them.
In his ruling, Justice Okunsokan dismissed the suit for lack of merit.
He held that there was no provision in the constitution or the relevant electoral laws that required an electoral commission to consult political parties before fixing the dates of elections.
The judge ordered OGSIEC to go ahead with the election on November 16.
