Councillors impeach LG chairman, deputy in Bauchi

For alleged mismanagement of public funds and lake of managerial capacity, Councillors of Shira LGC of Bauchi State on Monday, impeached the Council Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Beli and his Deputy, Adamu Bamaraya.

The removal was announced at the Council Secretariat in Yana at the end of an impromptu meeting conveyed by the Councillors in what was seen as a new development which is in tandem with Local Government Autonomy as declared by the Supreme Court judgement granting autonomy to LGAs in the country.

Reports confirmed from the area have it that, the Secretariat has been deserted by the workers who are awaiting further directives from the officials.

Leader of the Councilors, Wali Adamu, told Journalists in Bauchi of the development when he led his fellow Councillors to the State Assembly for notification as required by the law.

He cited illegitimate and one-sided operation by the sacked Chairperson in discharging the affairs of the Council despite one month’s warning given to him to readjust his actions.

He also stated that he would be the one in charge of affairs of Shita Council pending the decision of the State House of Assembly as required by the relevant laws that there must not be a vacuum in the administration of the Council.

All efforts to get the reaction of the impeached Chairperson and the Deputy failed as his mobile phone number was not connecting as the phone was switched off as of the time of this report.
