Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman has won the biggest prize of the night at CAF Awards gala held in Morocco on Monday night.
Lookman, who was the only African in the Ballon d’Or shortlist for world best player, beat Morocco and PSG’s Achraf Hakimi to the continental award.
The 27-year-old scored three goals and three assists at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and also scored a historic hat-trick in the final of the UEFA Europa League last season.
Succeeding his national teammate, Victor Osimhen, Lookman becomes the sixth Nigerian player in history to win this prestigious award.
Meanwhile, Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie emerged as the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year after her heroics with Nigeria and Paris FC.
She was also in the shortlist for the Women’s Player of the Year award category but did not finish top as Zambia’s Barbara Banda clinched the award.
The Women’s National Team of the Year was also won by the 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚n women team. The Super Falcons showed a great display at the Olympics.
