Buhari laments hardship out of office, says he survives on proceeds from rent

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he is also currently undergoing hardship after eight years as Nigeria’s leader and sustains himself financially through rental income from one of his houses in Kaduna.

Buhari who made the revelation while speaking with the BBC Hausa service on Monday, emphasized the fact that he did not corruptly enrich himself while in office, hence his resolve to use the rentals from his house to take care of his needs.

“After my eight years as a civil president, I have only three houses; one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I have given one out for renting where I get money for feeding,” Buhari said.

“After eight years in office, nobody can accuse me of illicit enrichment. I have nothing to hide.

“I have only three houses, one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I’ve rented out one of them to sustain myself and cover my feeding expenses,” the former president said, insisting that no one could accuse him of financial impropriety.

Also speaking on the complex nature of ruling Nigeria, Buhari called on leaders to prioritize transparency and accountability.

“Nigeria is a difficult country to govern, but most Nigerians are unaware. You will not understand the complexities of leadership and the country itself until you find yourself in the administrative position of the country.

“Those outside the corridors of power do not understand the complexities and difficulties facing Nigeria.

“I look much better and healthier now than when I was the president of the country. Anybody that sees me now acknowledges that I look better than before,” he stated.
