Newscenter Media News The Benue State House of Assembly on Friday amended the 2007 Local Government Act and approved a three-year tenure for elected officials.
The amendment took place a few hours before Saturday’s local government election in the state.
The House unanimously agreed that the law be amended after clause-to-clause in consideration of the bill by the lawmakers.

The parliament therefore expunged the two-year tenure which was in sections 13(2) and 27(3) of the 2007 law and substituted it with a three-year tenure.
In his ruling after the legislative processes, the Speaker of the Assembly, Hyacinth Dajoh, agreed that the amendment was necessary to allow the chairmen enough time to develop their areas.
He ordered the Clerk of the House to forward a copy of the bill to the governor for his assent.
