Newscenter Media News Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation of Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments in the Vatican City, Francis Cardinal Arinze, has cautioned students against secret cult membership, illicit drug use and kidnapping.
Arinze made the charge in a lecture shortly after planting a Papal Tree at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Campus, Oyi Local Council of Anambra State. He blamed peer age influence for students’ engagement in social vices.
Speaking on the topic: ‘Promoting Social Responsibility and Ethical Conduct in a Teaching Environment’, Arinze, who stressed the need for a symbiotic relationship between lecturers and professors charged the students not to plagiarise works but pay serious attention to their studies and become good ambassadors of the institution.
The leader of Inter-religious Dialogue between 1984 and 2002 also charged students to accept admonition when they are corrected, and not challenge the school’s authority.
He lamented the rating of Nigeria as number one in persecution and killing of Christians in the world and attributed the acts to religious intolerance.
He pointed out that religion is proposed, but not imposed, affirming the provision of the 1991 Constitution on religious neutrality.
Cardinal Arinze also urged leaders to guide their followers aright and exercise discipline and love.
