Newscenter Media News Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who criticize him will not have peace of mind, as their “conscience won’t allow them to sleep.”
El-Rufai, who served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), made the remark on Monday in response to commendations for his role in advocating for power rotation to the South during the APC’s 2023 presidential primary.
He emphasized that his decision to support the Southern presidency was motivated by a sense of duty to God, country, and the party, rather than personal ambition.
“We did what we did for God, country, and party, expecting nothing in return. What is unfolding is merely another life experience, and part and parcel of human nature. We have got over it and moved on, but their conscience won’t let them sleep well,” El-Rufai wrote on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
The former governor’s statement was a response to comments by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who commended El-Rufai and other APC governors for setting aside their ambitions and supporting the zoning of the presidency to the South.
Makinde had acknowledged the sacrifice made by El-Rufai and other governors, including those from Jigawa, Kogi, and Yobe states, in ensuring the unity of the country.
“I must give kudos to governors on the platform of APC… for the unity of this country, they sacrificed their ambition,” Makinde stated.
El-Rufai also referenced a comment by APC chieftain Ayekooto Akindele, who praised the former governor for averting political strategies aimed at dividing the country along religious and ethnic lines before the APC primary election.
