Newscenter Media News Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his re-election as chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Abiodun in a statement on Monday said the re-election of Tinubu by his colleagues is an attestation of his sterling leadership qualities as the chairman of the bloc.
The Ogun State governor in his congratulatory message to the President said his re-election reflects the unwavering trust and confidence reposed in his leadership by the sub-region.
According to Abiodun, since his first election one year ago, Tinubu has laid a solid framework for the future integration of the sub-region and also fostered security among the people.
He praised Tinubu for demonstrating the spirit of statesmanship in handling the violent change of government by three member states, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.
Abiodun noted that Tinubu’s actions helped in averting the crisis that could have engulfed the West African sub-region.
“Under President Tinubu’s guidance, ECOWAS has made remarkable giant strides in fostering economic integration, promoting regional peace and security, and enhancing cooperation among member states,” Governor Abiodun said.
“His dedication to advancing the interests of the West African region has been evident throughout his first tenure, and we are confident that his re-appointment will further accelerate the progress achieved thus far.
“President Tinubu’s visionary leadership and strategic approach have been instrumental in addressing the challenges facing the region, including threat to democracy, occasioned by the coup in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso and insecurity.
“His commitment to dialogue averted what could have amounted to war, which would have had dire consequences for the entire region.”
Abiodun called on member states to join hands with Tinubu in advancing the objectives and values of ECOWAS.
President Tinubu was re-elected on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 during the 65th ordinary session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government which took place at the presidential villa in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Tinubu first emerged as ECOWAS chairman last year at the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau.
